Symptoms of teeth grinding

I promise that his page will change your life. The topic on teeth grinding can be boring, but not with this site, because I have dug deep and found out that bruxism (teeth grinding) almost always connects to bigger potential health problems. Teeth grinding maybe the only health problem you will ever have to face if you can make it stop now. By getting rid of the teeth grinding problem you are going to prevent a whole host of many other conditions.

Do not underestimate the implications of bruxism. Nip it at the bud before it progresses into something worse, such as cavities, TMJ, migraine, chronic pains, tooth losses, sleeping disorder, or something crippling.

I myself was a teeth grinder. In my 20s, my teeth were still strong, but the damage were obvious to my dentist. In my 30s, my lifestyle experienced a big change and all of a sudden my teeth started to develop cavities, and chip off bit and pieces, it was scary. My story hopefully will help all of you prevent something similar from happening.

Symptoms of bruxism include:

  • Hot, cold, or sweet sensitivity in the teeth
  • Anxiety, stress, and tension
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Sore or Painful jaw
  • Eating disorder
  • Click sounds when jaw moves
  • Headache
  • Earache
  • Eating disorder
  • Tooth wear, shorten tooth
  • Gum recession

When someone tells you they hear you grinding your teeth during sleep, that's the most definite sign for bruxism. This is also the best way to tell if you have stopped grinding teeth, and I will tell you how.

The following are risk factors that can cause bruxism:

  • Sleeping disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea
  • Bad bites, malocclusion, crowded teeth
  • Having too much coffee or caffeinated foods
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Smoking
  • Too much anxiety and stress
  • Irregular sleeping schedule due to shift work, or delay sleep phrase syndrome
  • Medication such as SSRIs, stimulants, amphetamines
  • Gluten intolerancefoods allergies
  • Minerals deficiencies
  • IBS, leaky gut, celiac diseases, acid reflux, digestion problems
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Vitamins deficiencies

If you have bruxism, relax, although the many risk factors above made it seem like the odds are against you. Don't worry. Most of the supplements recommended in this site will solve several or more of the risk factors above, while promoting a good quality sleep.

The good news is that many of the risk factors and symptoms listed here are interconnected, and share the common causes. By cutting out foods that often time result in food intolerance or allergy, and taking vitamins and minerals, most people start to get better sleep and stop grinding teeth altogether.

Many people on the autistic spectrum (including ADHD) suffer from teeth grinding. Autism often connects with celiac diseases. In some cases of autism, the condition can be reversed if the digestive problem is cured.

People who are not on the autism spectrum, who grind their teeth in sleep also stop the grinding after they cut out gluten, grains, soy, and other offensive foods that are bad for their digestive tract.

" I am so grateful for you sharing your journey with bruxism here. Bruxism is something I have thought about a lot, and I appreciate following a fellow mom’s journey… I feel your pain! Two little pieces of the puzzle I would like add for some thought from my personal journey with both being a long-time sufferer as well as a mom pained by the sound of her child’s teeth grinding… 1) food sensitivities (I suddenly stopped my life-long teeth grinding when I stop eating wheat/gluten almost 15 years ago) and my daughter stopped grinding her teeth we took out soy too; and #2 is a question for pondering)… Thank you again. Blessings."

"I had been a tooth grinder for many years. I had noticeable shorter teeth, which got worst during stressful periods, but the teeth grinding never stopped. Suddenly it all stopped when I did hair test for nutritional deficiencies, and found out I was deficient in magnesium, calcium, zinc, and had too much lead. I got supplements for deficiencies and detoxed lead."

Reversing damage of teeth grinding

The future of dentistry is promising. In clinical trials, researchers have successfully regrown dentins in patients using lasers and a new enamel gel was invented, which bonds with natural enamel perfectly. These technologies will reverse any damage to the teeth by bruxism.

In the meantime, you don't have to wait for the new technologies to arrive, you may try this remineralizing tooth paste (fluoride free) to remineralize your enamel.

Amazon Reviews:

"This is the only toothpaste I can find that helps my sensitive teeth to not hurt anymore. It actually seals exposed dentin! It fills up tubules holes with calcite. I investigated and learned that it has no Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Fluoride, or numbing agents that other sensitive toothpastes have. It has a low abrasive number (only 44). It is like a normal toothpaste- white, foam up well, sweeten with xylitol. I entered all the ingredients through the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database website and the result was zero toxic rating. This is the best of its kind. Even my 4 years old son can use it."

"The sensitivity with my teeth has improved tremendously. I've been searching for a solution that actually fix my sensitivity, not just numb my nerves.I didn't like Sensodyne, because how would I know if there was a problem if my teeth were numbed?

Now my teeth have become more smooth, less sensitive, and stronger. I can feel it. It has saved me from so much pain. My whole life I had been tortured by the pains from my sensitive teeth. I cannot be more grateful for this life saver. It makes all the difference"
